Large Motor Load Testing Overview

Load testing with precision torque measurements and power input is now possible at Bradleys', Inc. with our load testing tool. Our dynamometer has a torque measurement device that is capable of measuring 31,250 foot/pounds at 3600 rpm with a .1% accuracy on a motor load test.

The dynanometer has available several combinations of horsepower and rpms. We can perform a motor load test up to 2500 horsepower AC or DC. RPM capability ranges from 3600 to 300 at 25,000 foot/pounds of torque with the load testing tool.

Benefits

With the use of a dynamometer there are many benefits for your electric motor including:

  • Torque Measurement
  • Power Input Measurements
  • Performance Testing and Monitoring
  • Large Motor Testing Capabilities
  • Accurate Results in Testing

Process

Speed torque curves are developed with high-speed data collection. Our load testing tool produces sampling rates of one hundred times per second providing adequate data for graph production and can be exported into Excel format for ease of use and data reading. Full voltage starting is possible with limitations on motor size to approximately 1250 horsepower. With a motor load test reduced voltage starts are possible at different levels so extrapolation can be used to calculate full voltage speed torque curves for large motors.

A Yokogawa data collection system (Darwin) is used to collect steady state testing data for heat run testing. Stator, bearing and ambient temperatures plus power readings are collected at intervals from seconds to several minutes during a motor load test. All information including vibration readings and spectrums are transferred into Excel so all your test data is in one comprehensive file.
